Saturday Double Feature: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and…

Okay, let’s start with a quick recap of the “rules”, shall we? The basic idea here is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun.

So this week we get another retread/reboot of a once hugely popular series with the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and of course, the movie itself is, to put it lightly, no great shakes, but then all it really needs to sell itself is the name recognition, so I’m sure whether it truly stinks or not won’t matter because it’ll win the weekend, and that’s all the studios care about.

So, what to pair it with? Well, really, I’d considered running this one last week, paired with Guardians of the Galaxy (and the reason for that will be obvious to anyone who hung around for the post-credits scene), so it was fresh in my mind anyway, but it seems like a pretty good one to run with Turtles, too, since it also features an anthropomorphic animal and also really kind of sucks…

So what do you think? What would you choose for a double feature with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Leave your thoughts in the comments, along with ideas of any other upcoming movies you’d like to see “double featured”. Consider it, if you will, your chance to challenge me to come up with an interesting pair.

Until next time, Happy Viewing!

[A] basically brainless but intermittently adrenalizing, mostly-just-for-kids reboot.
