Ok, this one is mainly for my Nashville readers, but also to make the rest of you jealous.
The Belcourt Theater here in Nashville has just announced their spring Weekend Classics line-up and it’s a doozy! 14 GREAT Universal classic features spread out from March 2 to May 26! And all in 35mm! This is really what makes the Belcourt a truly wondrous venue, and why Nashville is incredibly lucky to have them here.
From the website announcement:
This spring, the Belcourt delves into the filmic legacy of Universal Pictures. This weekend series is a tribute to the great Hollywood studio’s history, with a spread of films that represent the wide swath of offerings (and genre) Universal pursued and executed over its 100-year existence. Many selections were drawn from a current touring retrospective of brand new 35mm prints, and others were hand-picked from the Universal archives.
We’re talking about movies like To Kill a Mocking Bird, Spartacus, Winchester ’73. The Incredible Shrinking Man, and a double feature of Never Give a Sucker an Even Break and Cobra Woman, and that’s just in March. Later offerings include Magnificent Obsession, The Sting, Scarface, and Jaws, among others.
And to make it even better? Ticket prices for members are only $5.75 per show. Plus members get 20% off of merchandise and concessions along with other perks. Seriously, if you live in Nashville (or nearby) and love movies and aren’t s member, WHY?!
The full lineup and more detail and dates can be found here. And here’s a short video preview:
Okay, let me just say now if anybody’s looking for me over the next couple of months, well, I won’t be hard to track down.
