Yep it’s Saturday and time for another Double Feature. Once again the basic idea is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before for a Saturday Double Feature. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun.
I’ve got to admit that I went a little obscure with this one, but I think it pays off. Of course, the obvious choice here would be to pair the new Evil Dead with its predecessor, and that would fit the criterion of 80s or before, but it’s also, like I said, obvious. Too obvious for my taste really. So I decided to go a different route. Okay then, let’s take a look at the trail for the new one and see what we’ve got to work with:
Okay, so… an evil book that shouldn’t be read from because it opens a portal to another, evil dimension. A bunch of teenagers in a cabin who ignore the warning, and read from it anyway. Horrifying creatures come across, posess some of them and they wind up at each others’ throats. Yeah, that actually does remind me of something else. Especially when you take into account the original Evil Dead‘s low-budget origins. It actually reminds me a lot of the 1970 movie Equinox. What’s that? Youve never heard of it? well here, take a look:
Yeah, I’d say its all pretty much there. So what do you think?
Until next time, Happy Viewing!
