As I’ve noted, it’s been something of a busier than usual week, which unfortunately means not as many posts as usual this week, but at least we do have the Saturday Double Feature to count on, don’t we?. Once again the basic idea is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before for a Saturday Double Feature. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
Okay, so one of the more popular smaller movies this year gas been 42, a biopic dramatizing the life of Jackie Robinson.
What many people (most, actually, I’d suspect) who’ve made this movie hit probably don’t know is that there was an earlier (as in 1950) movie version of Robinson’s story called, appropriately enough, The Jackie Robinson Story, and actually starring Mr. Robinson himself:
By the way, though the above trailer has (unfortunately) been (badly) colorized, the actual movie (which can be seen in full on YouTube) is in black and white.
So there you go. a perfect Jackie Robinson Double Feature. Oh, and as usual, don’t forget to pass along your own ideas for a double feature to go with 42 or any ideas about other new releases that you’d like to see paired up with something from the past. Just hit that comment button below. I’d love to hear from you.
Until next time, Happy Viewing!
