Yeah, it’s pretty obvious today is one of those “closing the tabs” days where I share some of the stuff I’ve had backlogged for awhile. One of those is this very interesting video from Film School Through Commentaries which focuses on David Mamet talking about cinematic language and some of the tricks and techniques that film makers use either to focus an audience on a particular aspect of a film, or to guide them away from something until the moment they want to use it to their advantage.
By the way, FSTC is one of those sites that I follow regularly, and one I highly recommend if you’re at all interested in listening to film makers talk about their craft. Their writ is to “condense commentaries to only the most VITAL film information”, and it’s one they carry through with very well, so even if Mamet isn’t your particular cup o’ joe, I still suggest you check the site out and give ’em a look around. You might be surprised what you find.
