A few days ago I wrote about three different movies whose titles all began with “Bring me the Head of…”. Purely by coincidence, just a day later I ran across this post from Cinephilia and Beyond concerning Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia that I thought I’d share with you guys. Along with a really in-depth video interview with director Sam Peckinpah and stills from the movie’s shoot, there’s also a link to a .pdf copy of the Garcia script.
Alfredo Garcia may, in a lot of circles be considered one of Peckinpah’s less successful efforts, but personally, I find it full of twisted humor that really appeals to me. From its initial premise (lets just say that the title should be taken very literally) to the bloody end, Peckinpah proves once again that he is not afraid to defy expectations and bring his own nihilistic sensibilities to a film that definitely rises above a lot of its contemporaries.
