Saturday on the blog means Saturday Double Feature, right? Remember, the basic idea here is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before.. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun.
So for this week’s new movie pick, I decided to go with the latest entry into the Percy Jackson series, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, which finds out titular young hero on a quest to save his friends and fellow demigods by finding the legendary golden fleece.
Now you could easily be forgiven if you thought I was going to go with the fairly obvious choice (especially given my well-known affection for any chance to feature the special effects work of top-motion master Ray Harryhausen) of Jason and the Argonauts, Instead, however, I think we’ll travel just a bit farther back in time and go with the 1958 Steve Reeves starring Hercules. Yes, the movie really is sort of a melange of various Greek myths, but it does feature demigods, interactions with the gods of Olympus, and, at its heart, the very same quest for the legendary golden fleece.
So what do you think? Have you got any other ideas for a good double bill? if so, let me know below. And also let me know of any other upcoming movies you’d like to see “double featured”. Consider it, if you will, your chance to challenge me to come up with an interesting pair.
Until next time, Happy Viewing!
