Fay Wray was born on September 17, 1907, marking today as the 106th anniversary of her birth. She is, of course, best known as the girl who screamed her way into the heart of a giant ape.
Of course, King Kong was far from Ms. Wray’s only role, nor was it even her first or only horror/thriller film. As a matter of fact, the jungle scenes of Kong were shot subsequently with another thriller that found her and co-star Joel McCrea on the run from a very different (but no less dangerous) threat in The Most Dangerous Game.
Around the same time, she also found herself screaming her way through Dr. X…
This is not, of course, to suggest that these roles were the only ones that Ms. Wray did. As a matter of fact, her career was long and included a large number of very different movies and characters. However, for many of us, she will always be the woman who first gained our attention and affection (much like that of her hairy suitor) by screaming her way into our hearts.
