Saturday Double Feature: Gravity (2013) and…

dHSaturday on the blog means Saturday Double Feature, right? Remember, the basic idea here is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun.

The big movie opening this weekend? Without a doubt it’s Alfonso Cuaron‘s Gravity.

And the double feature? Yeah, it’s completely obvious, but let’s face it, if there were ever two space movies that screamed to be watched together in the best quality possible the other would have to be 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Go ahead, admit it. you’d be there for that, and so would I. Though I do find it interesting how that trailer is structured. In some ways it shows that the idea of selling a ftlm as one thing then giving the actual movie-going audience a completely different experience is nothing new. Especially when what you’re actually delivering is so far “out there” as to be really something that can’t be sold in two minutes, but has to be seen in context.

So  there you go. And how about you? Any other ideas for pairing films with Gravity? if so, let me know below. And also let me know of any other upcoming movies you’d like to see “double featured”. Consider it, if you will, your chance to challenge me to come up with an interesting pair.

Until next time, Happy Viewing!
