31 Days of Halloween – 012: Is It A Trope Or Just A Cat?

October marches on, and so does our countdown to All Hallows Eve. This year, rather than trying to do a full 31 film reviews or something truly time-consuming like that, most of what I’m going to be posting are favorite trailers, short films, some full-length movies, and other items just to kind of help get everyone in the spirit of what really is one of my favorite holidays.

Yeah, we’ve all seen it hundreds of times. Or at least so it seems. You’re watching a horror film, the tension is building, you know something is about to happen, and sure enough, “ROWR!”… oh, it was just a cat.

This supercut was compiled by Alex Moschina, and a complete list of the movies the scenes were taken from is available at the video’s YouTube site. It does kind of make me wonder when the trope was first used. Anybody got any good guesses?

Also, I’m curious about what might be your favorite use of the “it’s only a cat” idea, or other misdirections along the same lines.  Let me know either in the comments below, or over on the Durnmoose Movies Facebook page which can be found here.
