Saturday Double Feature: Robocop (2014) and…

Saturday on the blog means Saturday Double Feature, right? Remember, the basic idea here is to take a movie that is out in theaters now, and pair it up with another movie from the 1980s or before. Sometimes the connection will be obvious, and sometimes it’ll be a little less so, but that’s part of the fun.

This week’s big release into theaters. of course, is the remake of Robocop

Of course, the obvious and easy way to create a double feature would be to show the original Peter Weller-starring Robocop from 1987

But naah, that really is just a bit too obvious, so I thought instead I’d try for something a bit more obscure. So how about instead of a movie about a robotic policeman, we go with a movie about a robotic guard dog? Yep, it just so happens there is one that fits perfectly: 1979’s C.H.O.M.P.S. which starred Valerie Bertinelli, Wesley Eure, and Conrad Bain.

Actually, that looks like it’s still going to be a lot more fun than the R-cop remake.

Anyway, what do you think? Do you have any other ideas for pairing films with Robocop? if so, let me know below. And also let me know of any other upcoming movies you’d like to see “double featured”. Consider it, if you will, your chance to challenge me to come up with an interesting pair.

Until next time, Happy Viewing!
