Of course, it’s only a teaser, but if this trailer is any indication, it looks like this translation of the classic Peanuts characters to the big screen may actually work. I usually find these expansions rather dreary and unnecessary affairs, but if there were ever characters that should work well in this format, it’s Charles Schulz’s creations. After all, they’ve already proven that they can work in a number of different settings and situations, and if handled correctly, I think there’s a lot of good story-telling potential here.
Of course, the key in that statement is “if handled correctly”. We’ve yet to be given any indication of what kind of storyline this film may have, but at least the artwork and short bit of “voice work” that we’re given here indicate a true respect for what viewers and lovers of the classic animated specials have come to love. Only time will tell, of course, but from this short glimpse, I’m thinking “so far, so good”.
