With Guillermo del Toro At The Helm, This Voyage Truly Could Be Fantastic

fv1According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guillermo del Toro is set to helm a remake of the 1966 sci-fi adventure film Fantastic Voyage, which saw Stephen Boyd, Donald Pleasence and Raquel Welch get miniaturized to travel inside a dying scientist’s body in order to save him from a deadly blood clot.

At this point, it appears that this is still in the negotiation stage, so whether it actually will happen, and when, is anyone’s guess. Still, I’ll say that considering the medical and special effect advances that have been made since the original came out this is one of those movies that is actually ripe for a remake, and if anyone can pull it off well, del Toro certainly is high on the list.

If nothing else, though, this announcement serves as a reminder that the original is one of those movies that I really should revisit soon, as it’s been years since I’ve watched it.

    One of my favorite movie memories from childhood is catching FV on TV. I’d love to see Del Toro tackle it. And I say that as someone who is normally wary of remakes.

      Like you, I generally am wary of remakes too, but like I said, enough time has passed that this one seems like it could really benefit from one. And, of course, either way, we still have the original, so…
